This 47 + acre parcel is situated at the conflux of three major roadways. Metro Parkway is a North South artery that connects from this site to dense urban core of Lee County and the industrial base of our economy. This roadway is fully permitted for extension south to US 41 and Federal Stimulus dollars are dedicated to the completion of that 4 lane extension.

Six Mile Cypress Parkway is a 6 lane arterial that connects the Beaches with the Airport, I – 75 and the shopping districts that exist at most every intersection.

Plantation Road is the eastern boundary of the site. This collector was extended in 2009 from this site, north to the river at State Road 80, Palm Beach Boulevard.

Many improvements are ongoing, permitted or planned for the corridor. They include the ongoing construction to connect with Business 41 and connect across the river to North Fort Myers. Additionally as part of the Hospital expansion, Metro Pkwy was expanded to 4 lanes. And the connection to South US 41 and Alico Road is now funded.

Airport

The Southwest Regional International Airport was expanded to include a new three concourse terminal with 28 aircraft gates and sufficient infrastructure to add up to a total of 65 gates. The $438,000,000 expansion was completed and opened for service in September of 2005 and has seen a steady increase since. During the month of January 2008 the passenger volume was up 2.7% from a year prior and totaled 760,000 passengers. With 9,109 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings) in the month and 3,100,000 pounds of airfreight, Lee County is a busy place. (Southwest Regional Airport website)

Tourism

According to the Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau (LCVB), Florida is the number 2 tourist destination in the United States. The local market (the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel) employ more than 43,100 people in the tourism industry with more than $1.4 billion in wages generated by tourism in the County. With the addition of our new International Airport, I believe the local market for tourism will increase at a more rapid pace (Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau)
